How do you prepare for HYROX Utrecht in 5 weeks?
With 5 weeks to HYROX Utrecht (26 to 30 November 2026) you train 3 weeks with focus and taper for 2 weeks. The HYROX Sports Science Report names a training plan of at least 6 weeks, so you are just under. Use the time to set your pace, to run at race pace after station work and to do one heavy sim, 10 to 14 days before your race. Do not build any new heaviness.
In short
- On 22 October, Utrecht is still 5 weeks away; the HYROX report names at least 6 weeks.
- Weeks 1 to 3 are training, weeks 4 and 5 are taper.
- Last heavy sim 10 to 14 days before your race, last heavy strength 7 to 10 days before.
- Early check-in is only for athletes racing on Thursday 26 November.
- Your goal is a pace you can hold, not a new record.

Is 5 weeks enough to train for HYROX?
For a noticeable training effect, the HYROX Sports Science Report names a structured plan of at least 6 weeks. With 5 weeks you are just under that. That does not mean you can do nothing any more, but it does mean your goal changes: you no longer improve your starting point much, you make sure you run the race well.
What you can still achieve:
- set a pace that suits your current level;
- experience how running after station work feels, so your pacing is right;
- stand fresh at the start after a taper.
If you want to know which finish time goes with that now, predict your HYROX finish time.

What does a 5-week weekly plan look like?
Three weeks of training, two weeks of taper. This is an example for a race on Thursday 26 November; shift the dates if you race later.
| Week | Period | Goal | Core |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 22 to 28 Oct | Starting point | Threshold test and a first sim at half race volume |
| 2 | 29 Oct to 4 Nov | Race pace | Running at race pace after station work, strength for your weakest stations |
| 3 | 5 to 11 Nov | Peak | Sim at race weights of a large part of the race volume, heavy strength |
| 4 | 12 to 18 Nov | Taper 1 | About 65% volume; last heavy sim Saturday 14 November, 12 days before the race |
| 5 | 19 to 25 Nov | Taper 2 | About 40% volume, light technique, rest |
For a race on 26 November, the window of 10 to 14 days before the race falls between 12 and 16 November, so in the first taper week. See building a HYROX simulation.
How do you taper for a race in 5 weeks?
Taper for the last 2 weeks with less volume and the same pace. Bosquet and colleagues (2007) analysed 27 studies; a taper of 2 weeks worked best. Benchmrk uses about 65% volume in the first taper week and 40% in race week. Those are rules of the app, not outcomes of a HYROX study. The last heavy strength falls 7 to 10 days before the race, in this example between 16 and 19 November. Everything about the last two weeks is in the guide the HYROX taper.
What do you stop doing in the last 5 weeks?
You do not add new volume or new heaviness that you cannot absorb. Three things are better left out:
- New heavy station strength in week 4 or 5. You will not recover from that before your race.
- A second full sim in race week. Your last heavy sim, at most 10 days before the race, is your dress rehearsal.
- Lowering your goal time after a good session. Set your race pace beforehand; HYROX itself warns that many athletes run the first kilometre too hard. How to choose your pace is in run pacing.
If you have pain in tendons or calves that does not go away, talk to a physiotherapist or doctor before you carry on training.
What does your race week look like?
Short, easy and with a few sharp bits. An example for a race on Thursday 26 November:
| Day | Session |
|---|---|
| Fri 20 Nov | Short easy run with 4 × 20 s at race pace |
| Sun 22 Nov | 4 × 400 m, 15 s/km faster than your threshold pace |
| Tue 24 Nov | Light station technique |
| Wed 25 Nov | Rest; early check-in between 17:00 and 20:00 |
| Thu 26 Nov | Race |
If you race later in the weekend, shift everything. You get your start time about 3 days beforehand, and after that you cannot swap.
How Benchmrk does it
You enter your race date, and the plan counts back from that day. With 5 weeks the phases become short and the 2-week taper stays. The app plans your last heavy sim 10 to 14 days before the race and uses your own threshold pace. With the quick check you first see whether your goal time fits your current level.
